Objective

Kanyashree is a flagship programme of the State Government under Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Department aiming to delay the child marriage and continuing the study of all Girls students reading in the different institutions under West Bengal.

Benefits

The scheme has two cash transfer components:

  1. Kanyashree - 1 (K1) : The first is an Annual incentive of ₹1000/- to be paid annually to the girls in the age group 13 to 18 years (studying in Class VIII equivalent or above for every year that they remained in education, provided they are unmarried at the time).
  2. Kanyashree - 2 (K2) : The second is a One-Time Grant of ₹25,000/- to be paid after a girl turns 18, provided that she was engaged in an academic or occupational pursuit and was unmarried.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Residents of West Bengal.
  2. Enrolled and regularly attending an educational institution.
  3. Unmarried.
  4. From families where the total income is not more than ₹1,20,000/- per year. However, girls who are specially-abled (with a disability of 40% or more) or are living in a Home registered under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2000, or have lost both parents, may apply for Kanyashree even if their familys income is more than ₹1,20,000/- per year.
  5. Reading in Class VIII and above.
  6. The applicant has attained the age of 13 years and not exceed 19 years.

Method of Applying for the Scheme

Applying for Kanyshree Prakalpa is easy – Collect the Application Form (K1 & K2) from the schools / institution / colleges you are studying in.


List of documents to be attached with the application form (K1 & K2) for submission to the Head of the Institution:

  1. Copy of Birth Certificate.
  2. Certificates, provided by Gram Panchayat Pradhan / Municipal Councillor for Unmarried declaration. This should be signed by one of your parents.
  3. Permanent Residential Proof.
  4. A statement that shows that your family income is not more than ₹1,20,000/- per year.
  5. Copy of Voter ID Card of Father / Mother / Legal Guardian.
  6. Copy of Aadhar Card (if any).
  7. Applicant's recent coloured passport size photograph in plain white or off‐white background.
  8. Copy of Bank Passbook page which shows your name, address and bank account number or any certificate issued by the bank to this effect.
